Recently, Singapore-based ChemOne Group announced plans to build a US $ 3.38 billion aromatics plant in Johor, Malaysia, named Pengerang Energy Complex (PEC).
The project plans to build a strategic Pengerang oil refining and petrochemical hub in Johor, the cutting edge of Peninsular Malaysia. The new project is touted as one of the world s largest and most competitive condensate separators and aromatics complexes and will be in line with the Malaysian government s transformation plan aimed at increasing the country s petrochemical production capacity. ChemOne expects that the new plant will bring Malaysia s annual export turnover of US $ 5 billion with the highest capacity, which is expected to start in 2024. ChemOne, PEC s main developer and major shareholder, plans to begin construction of the project in the second half of 2020. Italy s Maire Tecnimont will work with ChemOne to procure, build and commission the project.
Edwin Seow, head of the ChemOne chairman s office, said: ChemOne is excited to announce this groundbreaking project and, given its good performance and strong support from like-minded like-minded individuals, intends to complete the project successfully. With the further recovery of the petrochemical market, PEC is expected to achieve profitable growth while creating huge local employment opportunities and pushing Malaysia further into the value chain of the petrochemical sector.
The project is expected to create more than 7,000 jobs during its four-year construction phase, and once put into operation, it will create 250 jobs. The aromatics plant will have the capacity to process 150,000 barrels of condensate and naphtha by-products per day, with an annual production of 2.3 million tons of aromatics. In addition, the plant produces 3.9 million tons / year of energy products and 50,000 tons / year of hydrogen. Construction of a condensate separator is also planned to produce heavy aromatic naphtha, which will be the main raw material for the Aromatics plant. Editor / Li Dan
